Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

I am amazed and abundantly blessed by the bible study class we had on January 19, 2014. Sammy’s goal was to teach how to find the meaning of a verse. So he picked John 14:12 and started combing sentences and paragraphs within the chapter and then crossed to related chapters in the Gospel of John. He was making sure if the class was with him by repeatedly asking two questions at some interval, “Am I making sense? Did you get the point?” So, after well-focused and careful analysis of what we read, he helped us reach at the meaning of John 14:12 and that of Rev 12:11. He didn’t read or speak any outside story or sermon or CNN into the scripture. He started with John, stayed there and finished there. And that was it!
After I went home, while trying to organize my note, something caught my attention. The entire lesson was about the life and function of the Triune God. Moreover, I noticed what believers position look like in that life. I was surprised, because the topic was not about the Trinity. After listening to the audio of same lesson, I even saw a big picture of the Trinity quite vividly. However, being the youngest of all in Christ (not physically), I was afraid to share my insight. Eventually, I decided to stand tall to be corrected and humble myself to learn from you all and so I am sharing it now.
    (1) The Triune Life: This is about who God is not about what He does. God exists in three persons-God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit-each one of them being fully and equally God. The Father indwells the Son and the Son indwells the Father. The Father and the Son indwell the Holy Spirit and the Holly Spirit indwells the Father and the Son. We can’t have the Father without the Son and the Holy Spirit in Him; we can’t have the Son without the Father and the Spirit in Him; and, we can’t have the Holy Spirit without the Father and the Son in Him. This mutual indwelling reflects their oneness. That is how God exists in eternity, even way beyond creation time! Who said God is lonely? Is this not a perfect, infinitely happy life?
    (2) The Triune Function: This refers to what God does. The members of the Trinity are distinct and have different roles in doing the work of the Father. From the lesson, we see the Son coming to this world to accomplish the work of the Father on the Cross and then getting prepared to ascend after being glorified. The Father is getting ready to embrace the return of His beloved and glorified Son on one hand and to send the Helper (the Holy Spirit) to the World to continue the work of the Father. The Son promises His disciples to be with them even after He ascended and help them do more work. What a perfect plan!
    (3) Believers Position: Jesus tells His disciples that He and His Father would come to them and would make Their home with them (John 14:23). And that would be possible through the Holy Spirit Who indwells the believers, as the Father and the Son are in Him. Jesus said, “On that day, you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” (John14:20). To my understanding, because of the work done by the Son on the Cross, we have access to God- we have entered the fellowship of the Triune God. He invited us to His perfect Life which we do not deserve.
Conclusion: (1) The Triune Life is absolutely perfect with infinite happiness in eternity. So this falsifies what we have been preached for years that God created us because he needed us for fellowship. He didn’t need us, because He is not lonely, but He wanted to create, provide, redeem and sustain us. (2)Trinity is kept in the peripheral area of Christians’ mind and heart for some reason which I don’t understand at this point. But in reality we are saved and sustained by it-we are in it-though we are not aware of. The point is that the very gospel that saved us is deeply rooted in the Life of the Triune God. So our awareness of this reality would help us learn the theology of Trinity faster and easier. (3) What makes us humble, in the sight of Almighty God, with a broken spirit and contrite heart, other than knowing His greatness and the Perfection of His Triune Life!?

May we all grow and live knowing, loving and serving the Living God. May God continue blessing Sammy and his Ministry.

    Humbly,

    Kassahun
