ፍታቴ/ Exegesis

Exegesis is the faithful reading of a specific text at hand, it simply means to lead-out the intended meaning. It is the opposit of Eisegesis, which means to infuse or to read-in meanings that are NOT there in the text, as such it is not the faithful reading of scripture. When we read the scripture we bring several presuppositions that are either good or bad. We don't come to the scripture clean. Therefore the principle of Exegesis (principle of interpretaion), help us rather first to recognize that we come with many baggages, some are influenced by those who taught us in the past, some are twisted by our sinful tendency that would want to have us read it in a certain way, and some are influenced by our own worldview, culture, language and upbringings. Therefore the principle of exegesis helps us filter out all those bad influences and prevent us from reading what we want the text to say. Rather this process brings us under the power and the absolute authority of the word of God, to hear it clear and to hear it well. I encourage you to pay attention to these principles well.
