A Call to Return to the Center!
“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.” (1 Timothy 1:15)
Where should we begin with our journey in christian maturity? Sometimes believers have an in-depth knowledge on a subject matter that is not crucially important from scriptural standpoint. Churches spent hours and hours teaching their members some truth over and over again, but hardly emphasize teach a life inducing primary diet, which Jesus himself commanded one of his church saying:
“But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden. Only hold fast what you have until I come Revelation 2:24–25”
In other words, there are central, essential and non-negotiable aspects of the Truth that we must hold to the end. Do you see? Only hold fast what you have until I come. It s enough revelation! This central truth is described, for instance, as sound doctrine. It is a central body of teaching on which everything else is built up on.
Teach and urge these things. If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. 1 Ti 6:2–4.
He [an elder] must whold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it (Tt 1:8–9.)
The church is built upon the confession that “[Jesus is]….the Christ, the son of the living God….who suffered many things…and killed, and on the third day raised...” And upon this rock Christ has built his church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Therefore, the church must be built upon this foundation. There are truths in scripture all of us with out exception should believe with the same rigor. This is the non-negotiable aspect of our faith, that Presbyterians or Baptists,or Pentecostals, or Anglicans or Lutherans, young or old, black or white, man or woman, rich or poor…all must believe it and built up on it the same way.
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 1 Corinthians 15:3–5
Thus, this blogsite is dedicated in promoting this centrality of the gospel. This is not the time to focus on the distinct denominational differences. This is to focus on the life-inducing truth of the gospel. Therefore, let’s form a para-church (along side the church, and not in place of the church) community of believers regardless of our denominational differences, like people who sit around a camp fire, gathering around the centrality of Christ, his cross, his gospel and the glory of the Triune God. This is not the time to focus on secondary and tertiary differences on doctrines. This is the time to hold hands and protect the most holy of holies (that which is under attack), namely the centrality of Christ in the body of Christ. Hence, I invite you to participate in this call to return to scriptural faithfulness, sound doctrines and gospel reformation which is greater than anyone of us. Please join me here and start the conversation!
